The Outstanding Contribution Award recognises an individual who is considered to be an industry visionary and pioneer, someone whose work has been seminal and fundamental to the growth of the mobile industry.

2010
Dr. Andrew Hsu for creating the complex technology “Transparent Projected Capacitive Touch Screen” which is the basis for the modern touchscreen handset

2009
Dr Antero Taivalsaari of Sun Microsystems Laboratories and Mark VandenBrink of Motorola for laying down the foundations for today’s thriving mobile applications business.

2008
Greg Clayman, Gordon Gould and Alex LeVine, the ‘inventors’ of mobile social networking company Upoc, for creating a “whole new channel of socialising for mobile subscribers”.

2007
Alain Rossman, Chuck Parrish and Bruce Martin for their collaborative efforts that led to the creation of the mobile internet.

2006
Dr Jim Brailean for his pioneering work on mobile video.

2005
Taneli Armanto (another Finnish technologist), for bringing the game ‘Snake’ to the mobile phone.

2004
Vesa Matti Paananen, a Finnish technologist, for ringtone personalisation – an idea he came up with one morning in Helsinki when he woke with a hangover and wanted to get rid of that “annoying Nokia tune”.
